Resolutions + Goals

New Year's Resolutions are a funny thing. Many people pledge to drop 30 pounds by the end of the year. Or they pledge to exercise every day. Or they say that this will be the year that they will get their life organized. We all make these resolutions-- but do we ever follow through with them?

The problem with these resolutions is that a lot of the goals we set out to achieve are either to large of a goal or we're not specific enough about how we'll achieve them. For instance, I'm sure I would have better weight-loss results if I told myself I wanted to lose 2 pounds each month instead of  saying that I want to drop 24 pounds by the time 2015 rolls around (just so we're clear, I do not want to lose 24 pounds- it's just an example). We need to hold ourselves a little more accountable and keep our goals in sight. It is much easier and less overwhelming to start with a tiny goal and work your way up to a larger one than to start with a huge goal that is too hard to conquer. The latter only leads to failure!

With this said, I still love resolutions. The new year is a fresh start; a chance for new beginnings and new opportunities. Here's to 2014 and the adventures that it will bring!!!

Goals for 2014

-Aim for more sleep and increase my water intake. With more sleep and water, I'll be better at curbing junk food cravings (I want sugar, sugar, sugar when I'm tired) and I'll feel better overall.

-Listen to my body! There's a difference between soreness and pain-- I need to stop pushing myself so hard and take a rest day when I need to. It's tough when you're an exercise instructor, but we're only human!

-Learn to leave work at home. I spend so much of my free time thinking about things that need to be done at work or things that happened at work. Separating work from home can be tricky, but I need to work on it.

-Be more positive. Enough said!

-Eliminate Reduce my diet soda intake. I love diet soda. It's my thing. BUT, I know the artificial sweeteners aren't good for me, so I'm going to seriously work on reducing the amount I drink.

-Get better with meal planning and food prep. It's much easier to make healthy choices when you have plenty of options ready to eat!

Did you make a resolution for the new year?

  1. You can earn $20 for a 20 minute survey!

Guess what? This is exactly what major companies are paying me for. They need to know what their customer base needs and wants. So these companies pay millions of dollars per month to the average person. In return, the average person, myself included, answers some questions and gives them their opinion.
